The Mountbridge – a versatile, future-proof platform upgrade system

Mountbridge is an adjustable, extended lifecycle platform upgrade system that solves three major challenges facing the rail industry:

1. RECTIFY
Platform Train Interface (PTI) stepping distance issues.

2. RESTORE
Degrading platforms to meet current safety standards

3. REDUCE
Installation and ongoing maintenance costs

Mountbridge is installed with minimal disruption to passengers and Train Operating Companies (TOCs) compared to traditional methods.

Mountbridge is ahead of the curve in platform design today and is under constant development to meet changing needs and regulatory standards.

As a modular platform system, it lends itself to a wide range current features, future upgrades, easier maintenance and rapid repair, in the event of unforeseen accidental or malicious damage.

Mountbridge overlays the existing platform and is adjusted for height and oversail to bring the PTI stepping distance to standard. This reduces dwell times and minimises passenger-related issues.

Rectifies PTI Stepping Distance Issues

Changes in the external train dimensions and track alignments has increased Platform Train Interface (PTI) stepping distances over the years. This results in increasing dwell times through a combination of more time needed to board or alight from trains, passenger items lost in the void and passenger injuries.

Mountbridge overlays the existing platform and is adjusted for height and oversail to bring the PTI stepping distance to standard. This reduces dwell times and minimises passenger-related issues.

Restores Degrading Platform Assets

Passenger footfall, degrading materials and environmental conditions ensure that all platforms need periodic repair or replacement. Restrictions on capital expenditure can result in increasingly expensive repair costs being the only option to client managers.

Mountbridge can be installed as an overlay across an entire platform or, at a reduced investment, as just the leading platform edge backed up with tarmac or paving to the rear.

Reduce Installation and Maintenance Costs

In most cases, Mountbridge overlays the existing platform structure. This eliminates the time, cost, mess and disruption associated with excavation and removal of existing structures. It may also minimise the installation procedure, is most often performed without inconveniencing passengers, and without the planning and disruption of full track possessions.

The FRP (Fibre Reinforced Polymer) platform deck has a longer lifespan than traditional material construction. It also incorporates many features that minimise ongoing maintenance, as detailed on the page opposite.

Mountbridge was winner of the 2018 UKRIA Sub-Contractor of the Year Award, Hammond ECS Ltd is ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and RISQS accredited. Its team is renowned for its high quality craftsmanship, project management and problem solving skills which consistently deliver projects on time and budget.
